Simon Goldbard
Simon Goldbard is a serial scientific entrepreneur with inventions that have formed the basis of several US biotechnology companies. He has more than 25 years of experience forming, and successfully managing, large interdisciplinary research and product development programs in the life sciences industry.
This experience includes all aspects of product development, from invention and venture financing, to product commercialization, marketing and sales.
Mr. Goldbard’s experience also encompasses diverse related fields including: vaccines, therapeutics, medical devices and bio-agro products. He currently scientific advisor for several US life science companies where he negotiated strategic partnerships with large companies and prestigious academic and research institutions.
Mr. Goldbard was previously Founder and VP of Research and Product Development of Vitra Bioscience Inc., a ventured-backed biotechnology company that sold systems to accelerate drug development. This company has been acquired by Millipore, a large public company and global provider of biological products (NYSE:MIL). Mr. Goldbard was the co-inventor of the original concept and other technologies behind the company.
Before forming Vitra, Mr. Goldbard was in charge of Research and Product Development at the biotechnology company Applied Imaging Corporation. During his tenure Applied Imaging developed a series of products that were the basis of its IPO in 1996. Mr. Goldbard was part of the team that took the company public (NASDAQ: AICORP).
Before joining Applied, Mr. Goldbard was also the Co-Founder and Director of Lifecodes Corporation, a start-up company that developed innovative approaches for the use of DNA probes in research and clinical diagnosis. In 1988 the company was acquired by Quantum Chemicals (formerly National Distillers Inc., part of the original DOW JONES Index companies). Lifecodes was the first company to use DNA fingerprinting in the forensic and paternity fields. This technology has been the most important tool in law enforcement worldwide in the last 100 years. Mr. Goldbard was involved in training the most prestigious law enforcement agencies around the globe in the use of DNA fingerprinting, including: the FBI, Scotland Yard, and Interpol.
Mr. Goldbard holds a Ph.D. in Immunobiology from Iowa State University and a BS from the National University of Mexico (UNAM).
